Preparing Your House for the Market

After making the decision to sell your home, there are simple steps that can help prepare your house for the market and get your house ready for showing!

Clean, clean, clean!

The exterior of your home is the first thing potential buyers will see. So, make sure the outside looks clean and fresh. Remove any debris from the yard and trim your plants, bushes and shrubs for a sharper look. It may even be beneficial to give your door and shutters a fresh coat of paint to really spruce up your exterior look!

On the inside, remove any carpet stains that may turn buyers away. Consider having wood floors and/or carpets professionally cleaned. Dust your furniture and declutter your home for showings, including putting up any pet bowls, toys and leashes. Remove any large family photos as potential buyers want to picture themselves in the home.

Give special attention to the kitchen and bathrooms.

Make sure your kitchen and bathrooms are immaculate. Even if you don’t have any new appliances or additions to attract a potential buyer, you can make a good impression by deep-cleaning these rooms. Clean your appliances and organize the fridge inside and out. Make sure all counters are clean and decluttered as well.

Consider a fresh coat of paint...

If you can afford paint for even one room in your house, do it! For any rooms painted in bright, non-neutral colors, consider adding a fresh coat of paint in a calm beige or gray as it could really make an impact on potential buyers.

...Or some new light fixtures!

A quick and easy way to update your home is to replace outdated light fixtures. Updating exterior carriage lights, fans and other fixtures can give your home the warm inviting look you need when working to sell your home.
